Providing optimal advanced paediatric life support relies on rapid calculation and administration of interventions. The Paediatric Resuscitation Codex was developed to alleviate the stress involved with having to quickly and accurately do weight based calculations for resuscitation and intubation drug doses whilst also doing age based calculations for selection of appropriate equipment. It also draws together a host of other information related to Paediatric Resuscitation. The overall aim is to streamline the resuscitation process by reducing stress for health professionals, eliminating drug or equipment selection errors, and ultimately improving the outcomes for our Paediatric patients. The Paediatric Resuscitation Codex is a double-sided card measuring 15cm x 15cm containing the current algorithm for paediatric cardiorespiratory arrest, a weight-based drug calculator, and an age-based calculator for estimating weight and for determining ETT size and length. Weight and age can also be estimated from the childs length / height. The Paediatric Resuscitation Codex also contains tables of age-specific vital sign values, formulae and guidelines for the selection of nasogastric tubes, indwelling catheters, chest drains, and other information.
